The colón (named after Christopher Columbus, known as Cristóbal Colón in Spanish) is the currency of Costa Rica. The plural is colones in Spanish. The symbol for the colón is ₡ and the ISO 4217 code is CRC.
ATMs are available in most parts of Costa Rica. When taking one of our tours, other than personal expenses you shouldn't need much extra cash. We encourage you to bring small bills ($20 or less) to change into Costa Rican Colones. At the end of the tour we will buy any unwanted colones back from you. The United States dollar is also accepted unofficially in many places throughout Costa Rica. Major credit cards are also widely accepted.
